How do I update my iOS with the 3rd generation iPhone?

I am using a 3rd gen.iPhone on a metro pcs account and can't figure out how to change the iOS. Can someone please help me..???) PLEASE HELP ME IM 70YRS OLD AND AM COMPUTER ILLITERATE WITH NO PATIENTS,BAD ATTITUDE AND POOR EYE SITE.OH AND NOT TO MENTION MY OVERLY ABNORMAL SIZED FINGERS THAT MAKE IT DIFFICULT TO DO ALOT OF SHIT ON THIS SMALL SCREEN....
