I was on my laptop when it suddenly started this high pitched noise, like the DVD player was running super fast, this went on for a good minute or so before it stopped then started up another minute later in a constant cycle. I turned it off than on, even pulled out the battery and nothing changed. I only use it for general browsing and work. I am thinking that the fan might be going out...  Any clue what's wrong?

Here are the list of thing that I think could possibly be causing noises: A. The fan is either squeaky or is hitting another component B. the hard drive is failing OR is just noisy C. The optical drive (dvd player) is just getting old and noisy. If I were you I'd run a disk check just to make sure it's not your HDD (look that up) and otherwise I wouldn't really worry!

Maybe it is because that the the fan is broken something in it and it is maybe because the sitting position with the fan.
