I think there may be some rejection of Chrome by Linux Mint because Linux Mint folks don't like google. But I want to use my chromecast and there is one technique I particularly want to try that requires I have the Chrome browser on my LInux mint desktop (that will work - hopefully - in conjunction with my chromecast setup via my Samsung tablet chromecast application connected to my TV).
Bottom line is I just want Chrome on my desktop Linux Mint and I don't see Chrome anywhere in the "software packages available" list on my mint box. I also looked at the Synaptic manager on my mint box and did search but didn't find anything. I'm not a tech guru but didn't think I was exactly a newbie either but searches both on your site and on google don't seem to bring up what I'm looking for.
I don't want "Chromium" which seems to be a Linux Mint browser that is being touted to compete with Chrome. Because the chromecast device is intimately involved in what I want to do right now, I'm pretty sure I need the Google Chrome browser. I'm not asking for help with the chromecast (at least not with this question) but do want help getting Chrome brower on my desktop. Please help.

I found it!
Went to:
https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/
saved deb file
then installed gdbi
and installed jdk* (not absolutely sure this last step was installed)
Then changed permissions on google chrome deb file to 777 (wouldn't work with 755 using gdbi even though I had sudo)
pointed gdbi file to deb file and bingo! got it now - haven't tested it yet - hope I don't break mint!
Apologies for takiing your time. Maybe above info might help someone.
I haven't started on my chromecast trick yet - crossing fingers.
