Any motherboard made prior to about February of this year should work with Windows XP. Go to the motherboard's support website and see if it has drivers available for Windows XP.

It is far more likely that your motherboard, if it is not the same one which came with your laptop, is incompatible with some other part of the laptop, such as the LCD inverter board or the LCD screen, etc.Laptops are pretty finicky and you can't just swap motherboards around. You have to replace a laptop motherboard with the exact same model.
