what to do if my Xbox 360 won't register a brand new flashdrive?

I have a flash drive that was given to me and I was told it has never been used. I'm not sure how big it is because When I plug it in To the USB port on the front of the Xbox  nothing happens. The red light come on and I can press the button to make it flash but the xbox, my tablet, my husbands iPad, or his android smartphone won't register anything in the USB storage area.  I'v tried all the troubleshooting options I know but still nothing. I don't have a laptop or PC to plug it in so what should my next step be?
