my next book 8 will not come on, it will not çhàrge the red light just keeps blinking. help

I hadn't used my next book for a while.  When I tried to turn it on it wouldn't come on.  Figuring the battery was dead I plugged it in.  The red light started blinking but it won't  charge up or come on.   It has only been used for about a week,
