how do I change my user name & password for google?

On one page I'm asked if I want a new user name to enter a valid namIt then acids the new name invalid entry. Continues toy new ph0ne #. Which I've had the use # for 5 yrs then tells me the # belongs t9 someone else.At wits end here.
