My sister and I were having a disagreement about using the word redundant. The statement made was, " paul taking the meds himself was redundant." Our question is this, was redundant used correctly in this sentence?

Redundant is the act not the person. Tom's taking the mess is redundant. (Assuming he's already done so or taken similar meds)
