How do I change a password on a net gear advanced cable modem getaway without knowing the old password

I got a net gear advanced cable modem getaway box from a friend, and it has a password on it how do I change that password without knowing the old one?

You would have to use the factory reset button - usually a small - pinhole - button on the back. You usually need something like a paperclip to press it. Press and hold for 15-30 seconds to restore factory settings: WARNING ... as a modem/gateway combined unit it may need some configuration by the ISP. I don't believe it will but. I do not kjnow for sure.
