Did you use the factory restore or a restore point?
Back up your data and use the factory restore. (Windows Easy Transfer Wizard is a great way to back up your data.) While that is going, if you have access to another coimputer, download the latest drivers and BIOS for your computer from the mfg web site. If you don't have a second computer then just download them when the restore is complete.
As soon as you restore the machine, install your preferred AV program followed immediately by running Windows update repeatedly until there are no more updates - this usually takes several reboots.
Next, install the updated drivers and BIOS update from the mfg stie.
Now, install your 3rd party apps including your VPN software.
Finally, restore your data from the backup and you are off to the races.
