Can I bypass the encryption login

Question

I activated an encryption security thing on my HP and was then asked to restart and since then I cannot get the computer to operate.  I start it, and I get the HP Encryption login page, I enter my password and then the screen goes black with a large white unmovable cursor on it.  Nothing else happens and I have to shut down the computer.  I tried starting up the computer while pushing F8 but this didn't do anything either I still end up on the same screen that takes me nowhere.
