Order of precidence - you do the division first, then the subtraction.

Well, 6 divided by 9 is 2/3. Unless you want to get into a lot of decimals the same basically applies to 6.5/ 9.5. To be relatively exact it would be 17/25.

So 2/3 minus 5 and 1/4 ...
Put the fraction into common denominators ...
8/12 - 5 and 3/12 = -4 and 5/12

Or, to be precise: -4.5657894736842105263157894736842
