why when i try to attach a word document and send in an email does the text on the document disappear?

I ordered a resumé created by an outside company. When I try to attach that resume and send in an email, the text disappears. I downloaded the resumé to my computer. The text shows up fine. I attach it and send in an email, the text disappears.
